The Flagship, July 29, 2011
Hampton Roads jewelry store, Hi-Ho Silver, is proud to introduce "From Soldier To Soldier," an awareness and fundraising campaign in support of wounded veterans and their families.
The campaign is based on the sales of a designer version of the survival and friendship bracelets worn by many U.S. and allied Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
For every bracelet sold in Hampton Roads, $25 will be donated to Homes For Our Troops and other organizations supporting returning wounded veterans and their families.

Collectible beads are fast becoming an essential accessory...
Skeptical? "Don't knock it until you try it," says Leslie Sink, owner of Hi-Ho Silver, a retailer of handmade sterling silver designs. Based in Newport News, Virginia, Hi-Ho Silver began carrying Chamilia beads three years ago. After the 100th customer asked her about add-a-bead lines, Sink finally looked into it. Since bringing Chamilia in, she has seen the category explode.
She says, "Chamilia constitutes a strong percentage of our sales, simply because it gets customers to come back again. It's viral. Not only do customers return for self-purchases, but they also buy gifts for others, and get friends and family to come in and buy gifts for them. Lots of new customers have come to us."

NEWPORT NEWS — Leslie Sink argues that donating inventory to charity auctions isn't just a good thing to do, it's a smart thing to do.
"I've had more people stop me," Sink said, "at the bank or grocery store and say, 'I got into a bidding war with somebody over this bracelet and I just had to have it, but I lost out. Do you have another one like it?'"
Sink -- who co-owns Hi-Ho Silver with her husband, Chris -- said their small jewelry company's monthly budget has a line item specifically for donations to local fundraising events. She said, "It gets our name out there in a way that makes us feel as if we're helping the cause, but it's also turned out to be a good business decision."
